Three from Five

Event
Meeting Report

This evening, we had a new idea for a club evening from our Chairman Chris. We were asked to select five PIs that we would like some help with deciding whether they were good enough to enter a competition, because we all have difficulty making our selections, don’t we?

To begin the meeting however we had the Parish notices, with Janet telling us about two events which are coming up, the first being on October 11th when anyone interested will be going to Lewes to photograph ‘Morris Dancers’; but there is plenty more to photograph in the Town if that does not appeal. And then we hope to go to Lancing College on 20th of November to take pictures of their famous and very beautiful Chapel. More details about that nearer the time.

Then Ray Foxlee told us that the proposed meetings to be held to help those interested in obtaining RPS distinctions were on hold for the moment as both he and the Chairman recently submitted ARPS panels which both failed. This was particularly distressing to Chris as they had both attended an Advisory Day where Chris had been told that his panel was fine without any changes.

Enough of all that, the format of this evening was that our names would be drawn out of a hat (on this occasion an old envelope) and then Chris showed each image finishing up with all five at once. The author was then asked to tell us which were his or her choice of the best three. Then, another name was drawn from another envelope and that person gave us their thoughts an all the images, finally giving his best three. During all this time there were ideas and comments flowing from the rest of us present. It was really quite interesting and entertaining to hear all the discussions.

Unfortunately, the process took quite a long time and at tea-break we had only seen five sets and we had ten more to go.so as we drew nearer to throwing out time, each set of pictures got less and less discussion. This was fortunate for me as mine was well towards the end and was dismissed fairly quickly!

So, this new idea was well received and enjoyed by those present. well done Chris.
