Fifth Competition of 2024-25 - The Set Subjects

Pollen buds by David Perks ABIPP

The fifth competition of the year took place on 17 April and was a set subject competition. For prints the set subject was Macro/Closeup and for projected images it was Urban/City. The judge was Darren Pullman; a very experienced, distinguished (and quite witty) judge from Carshalton Camera Club. Darren started off by telling us that he would be looking for images which fitted the set subjects well. He then kept us entertained whilst reviewing our images and at same time gave us some tips for improvement.

Darren chose his favourite images together with a number of Highly Commended and Commended images. He was impressed by the quality of the entries.

Judge’s favourite images of the evening:

The judge’s favourites were:

  • Prints: “Pollen buds” by David Perks – an incredibly detailed close-up image taken with immense care and skill; as the title says showing pollen buds.
  • PDIs: “Busy traffic on Westminster Bridge” by Nigel Cherry – most certainly a night-time city shot, showing the hustle and bustle as people go about their business.

A further 3 prints were Highly Commended and 4 more Commended, whilst 4 PDIs were Highly Commended and 6 Commended.

Printed Images:

  • Highly Commended: “A drop of milk” by Dean Sephton.
