My wildlife experiences and approach to photographing UK wildlife.
For me nature breaks down into two main categories - portrait/documentary and behavioural/activity. I largely focus on the later and present approx. 200 nature images demonstrating mannerisms and behaviour of UK creatures all taken in their natural environment.
I present a range of birds, mammals, butterflies and insects focusing on a number of different approaches to my work including how, breaking into many other genres of photography, has led me to import skills back into my nature photography. I cover taking images from a different perspective/point of view, the importance of composition, a sense of space and place, as well as the power of simplicity.
The talk introduces several series of images demonstrating the breeding lifecycle of various creatures as well as macro images. There is considerable emphasis placed on understanding the behaviour of each creature which the photographer is seeking to capture, demonstrating, as an example, my ARPS project - "The Breeding Life Cycle of the Great Crested Grebe” from which I have learned so much.
