Victory snatched by Steyning CC

Meeting Report

It was our turn to host a Mix and Match contest between ourselves Steyning CC and Southwick CC. It was held at the West Chiltington Village Hall, which turned out to be a very good venue for the event (just the right size with good kitchen facilities). However we were unable to gain access until 7.30, as someone else was using the hall till then, and we had a bit of a scramble getting set up.

Southwick came with a very large number of supporters and Steyning was also well represented. Sadly apart from those faithful band of bodies helping staff the event, we were not so well supported. Jean MacWhirter ran the raffle which raised nearly £100 which paid for the hire of the hall, the Judge, (Eric Burchell) and gave us £10 left for the kitty. Well done Jean. Audrey ran the kitchen with a band of helpers and provided the tea and coffee at half time. Martin Tomes manned the projector, with Di Walker and Daisy choosing our images. Paul was the official scorer and Clive was timekeeper.

After Di's welcome (she had flown down fom Hull to Heathrow and only got to us with very little time to spare) there was a slight delay because Steyning's software was giving them a problem which was abely sorted by our Martin, Splendid!

At the half way mark we were leading, but after some questionable verdicts by Eric! , Steyning forged ahead by a slim margin with Southwick and ourselves tying in second spot.

Our thanks go to Eric who survived some hefty baracking, particularly from Southwick!, and we all had a very cheerful and noisy evening.
