Newsletter October 2009

The best way to start - welcome to our new members, we are glad you have joined us and hope you enjoy your time in the photography club. Clearly the two ‘New Members Evenings’ have borne fruit and for the first time the club has undertaken such a venture must be declared successful. No doubt there could be improvements if we choose to run them again in the future.

Steyning Camera Club - Steve Watkins Lecture

New members evening well received

Meeting Report

Tim Hulbert showing printsThere were a lot of prospective new members at first of our new members evenings for the 2009-2010 season. Di started the evening by going through what the camera club does and was followed by Tim Hulbert showing some of his prints. We then had a very long coffee break which gave us the chance to chat and to help people to understand their cameras and how to take better pictures.

After the break we showed some of the entries for last years projected image competitions.

We have another new members evening on the 24th September so if you or someone you know wants to improve their photography and have some fun doing that come along to that meeting.

Successful Barbecue

Meeting Report

Summer Barbecue

The day of the summer barbecue arrived with the weather looking decidedly 'dodgy'. However the rain held off until most people had finished their main course!

The event was held once more at Di Walker's house which has a very smart terrace which is just the right size to accomodate 28 members of our club sitting at tables.

Our Chairman Peter again cooked all the various meats, which he had provided for us, with enough for 'seconds' for several notable members who felt the need! There was a very good variety of salads and sauces provided by the attendees and every one agreed that the grub was first class.

Di and her friend John welcomed everyone and made sure they had drinks and somewhere to sit. John had provide the wine which he had bought at a very good price and brought with him from France where he lives.

Just as most people had just finished the main fare, the heavens opened and everyone fled into Di's Sitting room with their chairs and the party continued. Members had brought a mouth- watering variety of sweets and puds which were then consumed indoors.

All in all everyone had a great time and our thanks must go to Di for the use of her house and her hospitality and to John for his hard work and of course to our Chef Peter.

A great evening of photography and chat

Photo Walk

Our photo walk at Amberley took place on 9th August 2009. We were fortunate that the weather was good and we were blessed with some great evening light.

Amberley is a pretty little village adjacent to the Adur river and north of the south downs.

We gathered at 6:30pm and set off around the village. Members were seen photographing a variety of subjects including a cricket match, flowers and the local architecture.

The light was failing at about 7:45pm so we gathered in the Black Horse for food and drink. It was such a pleasant evening that we sat in the pub garden and chatted.

Walkers have been asked to upload their images to the flickr SCC Photo Walk 2009 group where you can view our efforts.

The Black Horse, AmberleyThe aim is to walk in and around Amberley together taking pictures of things which we find interesting. All are welcome. Please share lifts, parking space is limited.

We will finish the evening at the Black Horse where we can look at each others pictures (on the little screen on the back of the camera).
