Probably a fair result!

Event
Meeting Report

The Regnum Print competition was held at the Southwick Community Centre and was hosted by Southwick CC. The Judge was Glyn Bareham LRPS CPAGBwho comes from Kent, near Maidstone and who cut a dash dressed as a white version of Nehru (a famous Indian Prime Minister, for the young). The hall was very well filled and they had to get out extra chairs for folk.

In Round One, our first print was Di Walker's 'Tyne Bridges' (which on the score sheet was TYNE GRIDGE!) This scored a well deserved 19 points.

Next up in Round Two was John Gauvin's 'Geranium' which was praised and was then given 16!

In Round Three, Ian MacWhirter's 'Polar Bear in a hurry' (POLOR on the score sheet) was given 18, and at the tea break we were lying 5th with 53 points, against the leading club with 57.

After the break, Jean MacWhirter's 'Buff-necked Ibis with Grub' ('NO GRUB' on SCR SHT) was given 20 very well deserved points and we rose to 3rd position.

Our Round Four entry was Martin Kulin's 'Need some new tights' which got a good 18, and we remained 3rd equal.

The final round saw Anne Nagle's fantastic print 'Baby Giraffe' only given 17 points, which we all felt was much too few, especially after the judge's remarks. In this round there were four 20s (out of a total of twelve for the whole evening), and we ended up in fifth place.

The winning club was Chichester with 114 points from some very good pictures as usual; Mid Sussex were 2nd with 111; and third equal were Steyning and Southwick with 110 each; and Storrington 5th with 108 (with the fourth highest Marks!). We all felt that had Anne's picture been awarded a better mark we would have been there with our rivals Steyning!

We won no prizes in the raffle, luckily as the prizes were not very inspiring, with a secondhand tripod some years old, and an old camera bag amongst them!

I was very impressed with the final results sheet handed to me at the end, illustrated with the entries from the winning club, until I looked carefully at it and it had got all our marks wrong, except the final total luckily.

Finally, in my last report on the Sussex Fed PI comp., I said that I thought it was our best result ever in that competition. I also said that Jean would correct me if I was wrong, which she did on the way to Southwick, telling me that we were second once some years back. Ian stopped her e-mailing me to tell me off. Thanks Ian.

We returned to our part of West Sussex with very mixed feelings about what went on this evening. However, I think that we selected a very good set of prints and so thank you all, especially Jean.
