The final round.

"Puppy in a Satchel" by Daisy Kane

I am afraid that you have me again reporting on this competition because Janet is away, no doubt paddling frantically to avoid being swept away by strong currents in some far off very wet place. I used to do the print reports when I was Print Secretary and it was a lot easier because I had already seen all the entries.

Bob Webzell ARPS EFAIP was our judge tonight. He has visited our club on several previous occasions both as a judge and giving us talks. Jean and Ian MacWhirter and I met Bob probably over 20 years ago when he judged a Natural History slide competition called 'The Fauna and Flora Competition' which used to be run by a couple from the old Worthing CC.

There were 59 entries including portraits, landscapes, wild life and lots of other varied subjects for Bob to make comments on, and he went through them all, holding back just 13 images.

I will report on these with the marks given in the order they were held.

First was Ray Foxlee’s ‘Over the Water to the Green’ which was a lovely landscape and was awarded 18. Following, was another very bright landscape from Paul Hayward entitled ‘Moving Glacier’ which also got 18.

Next was the first of the 20s given to Daisy Kane for her ‘Puppy in a Satchel’, which was a delightful BW picture. Jean’s ‘Rock Cormorants pair-bonding’ was next, which was very colourful and well framed and was awarded 18.

Next, another from Daisy this time of two racing horses well captured and entitled ‘It’s a close run thing’ which got her second 20 of the evening. Then Jean’s ‘Falkland “Islander” approaching’ was of an aeroplane landing, would you believe in the Falklands?! This got 18.

Terence Birmingham’s ‘Mo at speed’ image was next up which was a picture of Mo in which really only his unmistakable head was the only part in focus. This got a very well deserved 19.

After the break, Anne Nagle’s ‘Singapore at night’, which was very colourful got 18. This was followed by my ‘The Blackbird and the Wasp’ which was awarded 19.

Next, another beauty from Anne, “Nasturtium’, which was a very powerful and stunning BW image which got a very well deserved 20.

Another flower image next from John Gavin - ’Potentilla’ which was very colourful and well captured and got 19.

There followed yet another very powerful and moving study from Daisy ‘Winter walk on the dunes’. This was also stunning and got Daisy her third 20 of the evening, which is a very rare achievement. Very well done Daisy.

Next up another very good image called ‘Female Mallard’ from John Gauvin which was captured at water level and was given another well deserved 19.

The next bit is embarrassing, as my ‘Silver-Studded Blue Butterfly got an 18, and finally my ‘Bearded Tit on a Norfolk Reed’ was awarded 20.

Daisy’s ‘Puppy in a Satchel’ was declared the winning image of the night and with her three 20s ,Daisy got the highest score on the evening. I was second with 57 and between us we tied as the joint winners of the 'Projected Image worker of the year 2014-2015’ competiton. (I was very lucky, as Bob hesitated before finally giving my 'Beardy’ 20). Anne Nagle was third and Terence fourth. Congratulations to one and all.

Our thanks to Bob Webzell for judging our images with some humour interspersed.
